  Poor recruiting ethics. I applied for a Spanish freelance writer/editor position. I have a solid experience as an editor/copywriter in different industries, an M.A. in the Humanities and I'm a native speaker of Spanish. I was looking for a flexible opportunity, so it was ideal. I received an e-mail asking me to complete a task and send it back within 24 hrs. This in itself was not very ethical, as you are required to engage in a recruiting process with people you haven't even had the chance to speak at the phone to, let alone meeting them in person. But I was interested in the job, so I decided to give it a try. The task was to edit a text, making it suitable for the target audience. The text was not cleverly conceived, as it included highly improbable mistakes and inconsistencies -- they were not subtle errors, they were blunt and not very likely to be found in your every day work as a Spanish editor. Along with the text, I received a guide on how to edit it, which I followed carefully. I sent the task withing the deadline, and was contacted the next day by the HR assistant, who informed me that I had not been successful. I asked if I could receive a feedback on my task, and was told that another colleague would contact me soon and provide it. It never happened, never heard from them again. Respect for other people's time is of paramount importance, it speaks volumes of a company. Perhaps it was my own fault for engaging in this process without even meeting them before, but it seemed to me as a serious and reliable company. Evidently, I was mistaken.
